Conquest Games

Conquest Games is a small entertainment company in Wisconsin that does axe throwing lane rentals for parties and events. For their logo I wanted to focus on the entertainment portion and took inspiration from the fantasy genre that ultimately led to this whimsical dragon shield design.

The Process

I started the process by researching inspiration and sketching some base ideas for the design. I leaned heavily into fantasy and gaming to focus on the entertainment aspect of the company. I combined symbols like dragons, game pieces, and medieval weaponry, ultimately choosing a dragon head design on a shield with crossed axes behind it.

After I chose a direction I began digital mockups of design, trying different ideas styling the shield and then experimenting with the colors. I researched the types of ornamentation on medieval shields and tried some different textures. I ultimately decided to make it look like a wooden shield with some studs, or perhaps stones, around the border.

I then began explore color options. I tried to emulate colors from Reneissance Faire costumes, but as I wanted the dragon to be eye-catching, I leaned towards bright gemstone colors like emerald green and ruby red. Eventually I decided to make the dragon blue as a subtle tie back to CG’s parent company, Blue Lizard Entertainment LLC.

The final version of the design featuring the blue dragon on the shield and an old-style ornamental font that resembles different types of text featured in fantasy genre media.
